As a child, I would receive a report card from school that would give my actual grade and a grade for my effort. Most of the time effort went unrecognized because it was either lower or higher than the actual grade I learned. When my effort grade was lower than my actual grade I felt that my effort was not worthy enough and waste of time. When my effort grade was higher I did not pay it any attention nor did others because the outcome was positive. So, I learned as a child that my effort did not count, which was a lie. The true is in both circumstances my effort did count. It was learning and exciting experience. I gained experience at the end of the day.
How many times have you criticized yourself harshly about a new experience, goal, or outcome? So, much that you welcomed doubt to come into your thoughts tearing your dreams away. I have been there countless times. In fact, it was a real struggle for myself to detach from being a perfectionist and not focusing on the outcome of a situation.
I would carry perceived notions and perspectives about how a situation would or should be; and was left with disappointment once the outcome did not show up the way I imagined. Can you imagine how many times I stressed myself over things that did not matter?
I thought my perspective would be the only thing to lead to good things and joy because I did not trust anyone. Anxiety began to creep in your mind when we are facing new, challenging, and vulnerable circumstances. It’s out of our norm, so the first thing is the panic because it feels comfortable to do. We preceive these circumstance as danger, but that is not true.
To avoid anxiety, fear, doubt, and worry from rushing in your thoughts. You have to learn to be okay with your efforts and intentions in life. While, our intentions may not always produce what we expect. We have to learn to trust ourselves and our hearts and recognize that our heart was in the right place at the time. The heart and intentions should align with soul of the true you and the Holy Spirit! With those two forces working together you won’t have to worry about making a mistake that will cost your livelihood or your family’s. Here are 4 ways to embrace your efforts in life:
1.God Will Take Care It!
Learning to do your best and give every situation all you have; and allow God to do the rest is vital! I cannot tell you how many times, I have tried to be so self-sufficient. Trying to prove to myself and others that I was worthy of having anything in general that I would lose focus on what matter. It was not how the outcome turned out, but what did I learn from the journey and the outcome. Did I allow myself to be present in those moments?
1 Corinthians 2:4-5 CEV, “When I talked with you or preached, I didn’t try to prove anything by sounding wise. I simply let God’s Spirit show his power. That way you would have faith because of God’s power and not because of human wisdom.”
2.If God Accepts Your Efforts Than That’s All That Matters
I cannot believe I am saying this, but who care what other people thing. Right? It’s a cliché quote, but it definitely holds truth. We should not care what other people think especially if God gave us the okay to do whatever we need to do. A lot of times, God will give you the okay to do something that society or family does not agree with! God tends to do many unorthodox things to reveal to others his presence! We have to be open and receptive to receive different. Different is great–it promotes growth.
Colossians 2:6-7 CEV, “You have accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord. Now keep on following him. Plant your roots in Christ and let him be the foundation for your life. Be strong in your faith, just as you were taught. And be grateful.”
Yes, I would be agree definitely be grateful. Gratification changes things in your life starting with your perspective.
3.Embrace Your Mistakes
Mistakes are meant to help us grow. Mistakes are either an action or judgement that turned out wrong. The best way to accept it is to recognize that it’s ok to be wrong. In fact, it was probably best to be wrong to learn from the experience and teach others.
Don’t worry the situation is not all about you. You were probably the most courageous person, who has what it takes to embrace the mistake you made. People may not always forgive, Thank God he does. God is all that matters in the end.
Matthew 5:7-12 CEV, “God blesses those people who are merciful. They will be treated with mercy! God blesses those people whose hearts are pure. They will see him! God blesses those people who make peace. They will be called his children! God blesses those people who are treated badly for doing right. They belong to the kingdom of heaven. God will bless you when people insult you, mistreat you, and tell all kinds of evil lies about you because of me. Be happy and excited! You will have a great reward in heaven. People did these same things to the prophets who lived long ago.”
4.God will Keep His Promise
Here on earth we are so use to everyone breaking promises. The interesting things I always find out is that we hold others to the promises that broke with us then we reflect on God. I was gulity of doing this.
For some reason it hard to wrap my mind around simplistic concept that could only be achieved by God. It hard because I was thinking from brokenness that shaped my perspective. What I learn about embracing my efforts was this:
God was not going to change his mind about the visions he allowed me to see and the dreams that were embedded in my heart. God was not changing his mind which meant whatever he promised you will come in his timing not yours. The promise will come in the way he created not your way despite my mistakes.
Judges 2:1 CEV,”The Lord ‘s angel went from Gilgal to Bochim and gave the Israelites this message from the Lord: I promised your ancestors that I would give this land to their families, and I brought your people here from Egypt. We made an agreement that I promised never to break,”
You must learn to be okay with your efforts. The way I think of it! He is allowing us to live a life free of anxiety, fear, doubt, and worry! Being perfect is a false illusion that does not exist. Don’t lost the precious things in life over false illusion. Its not worth your time or energy. The interesting things is that God needs your efforts because at the end of the day it counts!
